Tricks On Optimizing HD Video: Saving Battery Life

During the IDF Fall 06, Patrick Wong, Intels Marketing Engineer of Digital Home Group, talked about tricks for Developers to optimize HD Video playback as well as ways to saving power. Most are for developers, but there are still some tricks we may borrow to enhance our existing playback time.

First, we should play video in Full Screen Mode. Windowed mode exposes the desktop, desktop refresh rate, and Windowed mode exposes the desktop, desktop refresh rate, and composition. Thus, Windowed mode enormously increases the power and compute Windowed mode enormously increases the power and compute. Its a burden of the compositor. Future of ancient treasures considered

A panel discussion was held on the preservation and future of national treasures at the Shoso-in Forum 2006 Osaka in advance of the 58th Annual Exhibition of Shoso-in Treasures that will begin today at Nara National Museum. Prior to the panel discussion, Hideki Togi, who plays various instruments in Japan's traditional court music gagaku, and Kenichi Yuyama, director of Nara National Museum, delivered speeches.

The exhibition is organized by the museum with support from Nippon Telegraph and Telephone West Corp., Kintetsu Corp., Central Japan Railway Co., Daikin Industries, Ltd., Daiwa House Group, Tezukayama Gakuen and Tezukayama University and Nippon Life Insurance Co. in cooperation with The Yomiuri Shimbun, NHK's Nara Station and Nara Television Co.

About 1,300 people attended the forum, which touched on Emperor Shomu's important role in the rise of culture during the Tenpyo period (729-749), and the treasures his wife, Empress Komyo, dedicated to the Great Buddha at Todaiji temple.

Lane Stadium contractor sues Tech, architect; Tech fires back

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The contractor that oversaw the expansion of Lane Stadium has sued Virginia Tech, blaming the school and architects for delays that plagued the still-incomplete project.

Turner Construction Co. filed a $30.5 million lawsuit against Tech in Montgomery County Circuit Court, seeking additional money it claims it is owed.

Tech has paid Turner $40.2 million of the $42.6 million it owes for the expansion, said Larry Hincker, a spokesman for Tech.

Turner Construction Sports of Arlington, a division of Turner, is completing the Lane project more than a year after it was scheduled to be finished. In its lawsuit, Turner claims it had "massive" additional costs because of "massive design problems" it blames on Tech and Moseley Architects of Richmond.

Students gain insight into construction careers

A recent event hosted by Persimmon Homes in conjunction with National Construction Week saw students from schools across South Wales cross trowels in an annual bricklaying competition!

Nine teams from schools including, Mountain Ash Comprehensive in Rhondda Cynon Taff and Bryntirion Comprehensive in Bridgend, took part in the competition where they were tasked with building a brick barbeque to a set design and within a time limit. Competition was fierce but the title eventually went to students from St Illan Comprehensive in Caerphilly who were commended for their teamwork and attention to detail.

Alongside the bricklaying competition, the action packed day also gave the students a thorough insight into the wide of range of exciting occupations on offer in the construction industry.

HAMPTON -- Q: I read that Hampton's plan to build four new schools will create 7,000 more seats across the district. How will they be filled?

A: About 2,100 students will move from trailers into permanent classrooms. Another 2,100 will be filled with students currently taking classes in storage rooms, the cafeteria and on stages because there is not enough classroom space in their schools. About 2,300 will be relocated from old school buildings that need replacing. That leaves 500 spare seats to accommodate any increases in enrollment.

Q: Would it not be cheaper to renovate Wythe Elementary School than build a new school for those students?

A: School officials say no. The cost to renovate Wythe to meet current building codes and program requirements would be about $13.5 million.
