State police have charged a 42-year-old man from East Allen Township with arson for allegedly setting fire to the mobile home he lived in with his wife.
Jeffrey Lemmon of 152 Brentwood Circle was arraigned today on charges of arson, causing or risking a catastrophe and reckless endangerment. He was arraigned before District Judge Joan Marinkovits and is free on $20,000 unsecured bail.

The nation's five Gulf Coast states are competing for a pool of 400 (m) million dollars to test and build alternative housing for hurricane victims -- a pilot program the Federal Emergency Management Agency hopes can become a model for how to provide fast, temporary or semi-permanent housing after the next tornado in Nebraska, earthquake in Hawaii or hurricane in Louisiana. Thousands of Louisiana and Mississippi residents are living in the tiny travel trailers and mobile homes FEMA provided as temporary shelter.
The new scheme revamps the way main contractors deal with subcontractors. Details of subcontractor lists will be sent to contractors. Although the accounting, construction and IT industries welcomed HMRC’s decision to delay the introduction of the scheme for 12 months, there are fears that the technical problems could still bring the scheme grinding to a halt, causing incorrect tax payments and increased administration when it finally comes into effect on 6 April next year. HMRC will provide transitional documents to main contractors in November so they can record the subcontractors they have employed over the past two years. But the construction industry is worried that if any subcontractor details are left off the documents, then thousands of contractors will swamp HMRC phone lines in the first weeks of the scheme.
An accused sex offender who fled his Perry County home Oct. 15 was arrested Saturday in Arizona.Clair James Smith, 56, of Bailey Run Mobile Home Park, Miller Township, was in Navajo County Jail Saturday after Holbrook, Ariz., police who were on the lookout for him spotted his black Ford Explorer."It wasn't an accidental traffic stop. Developers of the Shelburnewood Mobile Home Park hope to solicit public comment on the project that could soon become Shelburne's largest planned mixed-income neighborhood.
Housing Foundation Inc. will hold a public workshop Tuesday to present information and invite comments about the project, said Krister Adams, housing development specialist with the Vermont State Housing Authority. Adams said preliminary plans call for 160 to 180 housing units on 42 acres, and many of the homes would be affordable housing. The 25 mobile homes on the property would remain, but none would be added, Adams said.
