PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, October 22 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will build about 50 million square meters of housing this year, First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said in an interview with a Russian TV channel Sunday. Russia has inherited outdated housing and utility sectors from the Soviet Union and needs to increase construction volumes considerably to provide Russian households with affordable and comfortable housing. "This year, despite all difficulties, we'll be able to achieve the planned construction volumes of about 50 million square meters of housing," Medvedev told NTV television channel. "This is the amount we planned for this year, considering the task to bring up the volume of housing construction to the level of 80 million square meters a year by 2010. This volume will enable us to solve the housing problem." Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov earlier said the financing of the national project on the construction of affordable housing would be increased more than 30% in 2007.
If Homebuilders & the Homebuilding Industry thought they had it bad with a real estate bubble going pop; a two year investigation by Americas Watchdog & its Corporate Whistleblower Center just made matters much worse for this vital sector of the US economy. The investigation revealed massive federal & state tax fraud on the part of national, regional & local homebuilders hiring undocumented workers who then get classified as 1099 "subcontractors". The investigation also begs the question if the workers do not read or write English, how do they build a home or abide by local or State building codes? Millions of US "new home" purchasers should now be asking this question. (PRWEB) October 19, 2006 -- Americas Watchdog is an advocacy group focused on corporate responsibility & fair play.
Every day, new information comes along to help investors make financial decisions. And as previous articles in this ongoing "Understanding Economic Data" series have discussed, releases of economic data on topics such as the U.S. current account and the Producer Price Index not only affect the financial markets those investors are involved in but also provide keys to understanding the overall economy. Today, we'll take a look at economic data as it relates to the housing industry. We'll help you understand how the numbers are calculated and what they mean to the economy. With the boom in the real estate market over the past several years, the health of the economy has become increasingly dependent on business activity related to housing. Conversely, homebuilders such as Pulte (NYSE: PHM), Toll Brothers (NYSE: TOL), and Centex (NYSE: CTX) rely on a healthy housing market to sell their products.

Questions were raised lately concerning registering and towing park model campers on the road. The concerns were in regards to the need of an over width permit if wider than 8.5 feet and whether they are taxed as a camper or a mobile home. First we will explain the legal definitions of a "park trailer" and a "travel trailer" to help understand the difference. According to statute 168.01 sb 8 (b) a park trailer is a trailer that: (1) exceeds 8.5 feet in width in travel mode but is no larger than 400 square feet when the collapsible components are fully extended or at maximum horizontal width; and (2) is used as temporary living quarters. Park trailer does not include a manufactured home. Clause (c) states a travel trailer means a trailer, mounted on wheels, that: (1) is designed to provide temporary living quarters during recreation, camping, or travel; (2) does not require a special highway movement permit based on its size or weight when towed by a motor vehicle; and (3) complies with sections 169.80 sb 2 [width], and 169.81 sb 2 [length].
NEWARK -- Newark said today it plans to appeal the $38.4 million settlement a federal jury awarded to a contracting firm that claimed it was wrongly fired from the citys reservoir project. The jury last week awarded Donald M. Durkin Contracting $38.4 million, well above the citys $30 million annual budget. In a separate claim, the jury ordered Newark to pay $567,000 to reservoir designer URS Corp. for unpaid bills and legal fees related to the reservoir. The original project cost was $19 million. City leaders met in an executive session at the end of tonights regularly scheduled council meeting to discuss their next steps.
