Decision could mean end of Oriole Park

Owners of Oriole Park in Komoka were dealt what they called a devastating blow last Wednesday when Middlesex Centre Township denied their application for an amendment to the official plan. The decision was made during the Community Development Committee meeting on Oct. 11. The application was to redesignate the 200-site seasonal tent and trailer campground from parks and recreation to parks and recreation special policy area. According to Wendy Nesseth, whose father started the park over 40 years ago, the special permission would have allowed for permanent year round residences at the park. We are devastated, disappointed, and in shock, said Ms Nesseth. With their decision, the council has effectively put us out of business. In the planning stages for over two years, the Nesseth family has spent nearly $70,000 in borrowed funds for consultant and lawyer fees.

Mobile home park owners need to vote

To all mobile home owners, resident and nonresident: The mobile home owners need to wake up to what is happening here in Seminole, Largo, Pinellas Park, St. Petersburg and the whole Tampa Bay area. We need to group together as mobile home residents, which is the only affordable housing in the state of Florida, and we all need to get out and vote.

We have to get Janet Long to Tallahassee. Dottie Reeder had her chance to put a building moratorium in Seminole. She chose not to for whatever reason, so therefore I feel she cannot help us in Tallahassee.

We need to get Janet Long to Tallahassee. We the mobile home owners can do this. We also need to get Jim Davis in Tallahassee as a new governor. I feel that the Democrats need to get Florida back.

In Seminole, we need Leo Plenski.

Eyewitness News Report Leads To Crackdown At Mobile Home Park

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Orange County code enforcers, health inspectors, animal control officers, and deputies fanned out across an Orlando mobile home park Friday, all because of a report on Eyewitness News at 6 on Thursday.

Thursday, Eyewitness News was with the health department as they conducted a routine check of The Palms trailer park on South Orange Blossom Trail.

Because of what they saw, code enforcement formed the new task force that included each of the aforementioned agencies.

Friday, the task force went back to the mobile home complex and found violations in each of the 99 mobile homes.

"Doing a unit by unit inspection, mainly exterior, and several units have been condemned just today because of that," said chief code enforcer Kurt Fasnacht.

Barbour Announces Thursday Special Session On Modular Housing

Gov. Haley Barbour has set a Thursday special session for lawmakers to consider proposals that would reduce the cost of modular home construction on the hurricane-ravaged Mississippi Gulf Coast.

The special session will convene at noon, said Barbour spokesman Pete Smith.

Specifically, lawmakers will be asked to reduce the state's tax on modular homes by $4,000 to $6,000 per home.It is the same proposal that passed the Senate but died in the House Ways and Means Committee when Chairman Percy Watson, D-Hattiesburg, didn't bring it up for a vote during a special session in August.

Modular houses are made in factories then shipped to home sites and erected on slabs. Because modulars are made to meet local building codes, they're often allowed to be put in places where mobile homes are excluded from permanent placement.
